On March 14, five members of the Bloomfield Civic Band were inducted into the 2010 Bloomfield Federation of Music Hall of Fame. All nominees for the Hall of Fame have performed a minimum of 10 years in one or more of the five groups comprising the Bloomfield Federation of Music, as well as served in other roles within the organization.
The inductees are Rick Ketay, Catherine Sardina, David Nixon, Loretta Politano and Douglas Fine.
Ketay was selected to be a member of the Newark Boys Chorus at age 9. He has been a member of the Bloomfield Civic Band for 19 years. Ketay graduated from Montclair State College with a bachelor’s degree in music theory and composition. He is married, and teaches fourth- and fifth-grade instrumental music in the Montville Township schools.
Sardina has been a member of the Bloomfield Civic Band for 11 years. She graduated from Seton Hall University in 1999, where she played trombone in the University pep and jazz bands, and flute in the concert band. She played one season with the Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra, and performs with the Waldwick Band. Sardina can be heard daily on GOOMRadio, as a disc jockey for the popular rock channel, “The Tastemaker.”
